The kids might be taking a break for the summer- but warmer weather comes with its own set of unique cleaning and preventative habits. We’ll cover a few of the things you can do to get your home ahead of the game as we prepare for more foot traffic, higher temps and everything else that comes with the onset of Summer.

Ceilings

Dusting the ceilings (and ceiling fans) is a good habit to keep- especially in those seasons where the fans run more than in the others. An underrated amount of debris can build on the ceiling of your home. Adding kids or pets to the mix only accelerates how quickly the house can accumulate, dust, skin particles, and pet hair. Wipe down walls and ceilings with a slightly damp rag after dusting. Don’t use too much water. Not much is needed to accomplish the desired effect.

Freezer and Fridge

We clear our refrigerators year round, but sometimes we have to adjust our habits as temperatures rise. Condensation and heat make it easier for bacteria to build in the places we keep our food. When rotating leftovers and older groceries in and out of the fridge, wipe down your shelves with natural anti-bacterial solution or wipes. This attacks the spots where topical moisture and other buildup accumulate the most while being safe around your food.

Summer Cleaning Hacks for Parents

With summer in full swing that means all parents have a revolving door of kids! Popsicle wrappers all over the place, muddy flip flops, and plenty of wet bathing suits are surrounding your home right now. We know it can be hard to maintain a clean home when you are as busy as ever, so parents this one’s for you! In between your Go 2 Girls cleaning there are a few things you can do to make your life a little bit easier. Better yet, have the kids help you with the house cleaning! After all, it can be good for them to earn their screen time first.

Step 1: Clean out the fridge. It’s time to toss out those leftovers no one will touch. There could be hidden molds affecting your family’s health and an added bonus is now you know what you still need from the grocery store for dinner!

Step 2: Dust everywhere. Dusting is particularly important during summertime because the AC is likely running nonstop. As a result, dust gets pushed everywhere. Pay close attention to blinds and ceiling fans. You can even have your fans rotate the opposite direction to help. Use a simple mixture of water and vinegar for your product.

Step 3: Flip and clean your mattress. Mattresses should be flipped at least two times a year so it might be time to rotate yours. Mattresses are known to harbor dirt, dead skin, dust mites and tons of other allergens. If you are known to snack in bed you should be cleaning yours more often! Keep in mind that not all mattresses can be flipped so it’s a good idea to check with your mattress manufacturer before doing so.

Step 4: Prepare your outdoor space. If you’re hosting graduation parties, birthday parties, barbecues, or any other gathering, it is a good idea to give your outdoor area a good deep clean. Refresh your furniture with a garden house (a great chore for kids to help with), and use a mild cleaning product to disinfect the surfaces. As much as possible, try to avoid bleach because it can damage plants. Wipe down grills, planters, and other surfaces that may have accumulated pollen and dirt over the last few months.

Tips for cleaning your bedroom

In our previous post, we talked about decorating the bedroom. In such a private and generally separated space- lighting, furniture and decor reflect the occupant in a way that other rooms don’t. A space this personal also needs to be cleaned differently than others. Beds, and the surrounding areas as well as surfaces like dressers and nightstands offer a unique cleaning arena in your home.

The Ceiling

In most rooms, we’ll recommend starting with the highest reachable surface. This because anything that falls will land on whatever surface you may have otherwise stared with. In a room like the bedroom where fans run more than most other spaces- the fan can accumulate dust and pet fur faster than anything else in the house. Start by dusting the ceiling, light fixtures and fan blades.

Wipe every surface clean

In your bedroom are a lot of surfaces: tabletops, cabinets, drawers, a chair, your make-up kit, a display cabinet: you name it. And that too can be a source of accumulated dirt from the outside and even internally. To start wiping off the surface of these objects, you need to be prepared with two types of rags: one that is dry and one that is damp. For objects that can be wiped wet and have accumulated dirt, use the damp one to collect the dust away from those objects. Then, for objects that might need a light brush-off, you can use the dry rag to clean the objects.
Please take note that there are other wiping techniques you can employ, including using isopropyl alcohol for surfaces you use the most, including the table top or your study desk in
accordance with sanitary standards.

Sweep and Mop the floors

Most of the time, when we clean the floor it’s just all about just sweeping the floor, but really it’s also about cleaning it to discourage unwanted creature visitors. Aside from the dust accumulated, some of the things that you might have missed and are considered foreign materials include crumbs from the food you ate, spilled drinks you haven’t noticed, textile fragments from clothes and your bedsheets, scraps of paper and plastic from office or grocery: among other things.

The simplest way to start your bedroom cleaning is through sweeping the floor with a broom. Start off first with the corners and then make your way out to the door where you have a dust scooper to collect the swept dust. If the sweeping isn’t enough, you can opt out for a hand-held vacuum cleaner to collect from nooks and crannies of your bedroom. And we haven’t settled yet, preparing for the mopping process, with choosing the perfect soap- water solution that not just smells nice but also allows us to properly clean the floor. To mop the floor, start with the farthest part to the part near your door. That way, there’s an even clean of the floor.

Thanksgiving Cleaning Checklist

Thanksgiving is that time of the year where family and friends get together. For sure, you will be busy preparing for everything, from cooking to house cleaning.

Plan your activities ahead and deep clean your house, from the bedroom to the toilet, kitchen, and receiving area to avoid holiday stress.

If you are a busy bee mom, it is best to start cleaning your house 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. This way, you will not panic because of last-minute clean-up.

Here is your Halloween checklist.

Two weeks before Thanksgiving

Throw away those expired and forever forgotten leftovers. Clean your refrigerator as you need more space for Thanksgiving food.
Clean the kitchen, stove, and cabinets.
Wash and clean the China wares and utensils that you are going to use.
Declutter that area where you plan to have your guests.
Mop the bathroom.
Mop the living area.
Declutter bedrooms.

A week before Thanksgiving

Dust all windows and blinds.
Vacuum the area where guests are received.
Vacuum or brush upholstered furniture.
Polish and wipe wooden furniture.
Deep clean the bathroom or bathrooms that guests will be using.
Clean the exhaust fan, oven, and stove. You don’t want to cook in a dirty, smelly kitchen.

A day before Thanksgiving

Freshen up the bathrooms.
Mop, vacuum, and sweep floors.
Set the table on how you want it to be during Thanksgiving.
Empty and run the dishwasher.
Put out your decorations and scented candles.
Empty all trash bins.

Thanksgiving Day

Wipe stove and oven.
Put fresh towels in the bathroom.
Empty all trash bins if it’s full after all the cooking,
Rearrange the table if needed.
Wipe the Chinaware and utensils before putting them on the table.
Clear the countertops of any clutter.
Light on a scented candle or spray an air freshener.
